Cuando supe que iba a ir a la India, lo primero que se me vino a la mente fue el Taj Mahal ¡me moría de ganas de conocerlo!
Como les conté en mi post de Jaipur, la India es un lugar de contrastes; y Agra es una de las ciudades donde más lo note, empezando por el monumento más representativo del amor, el Taj Mahal, rodeado por calles destruidas, sucias y sin orden.
Al llegar todo se veía sucio, con una capa de polvo encima de las calles, los arboles y la gente. Las banquetas eran prácticamente inexistentes, todas estaban destruidas y el cielo parecía una enorme nube de humo.

Llegamos al atardecer, con poca luz y nos quedamos en el hotel The Oberoi Amarvilas. El más bonito del mundo, la entrada hermosa, una explanada con espejos de agua y fuentes. Nuestros cuartos divinos, con una terraza irreal con vista al Taj Mahal.
La primera noche tuvimos la cena de Navidad en la terraza del hotel. Habían muchas mesas y un bufete con comida internacional e hindú. Probamos de todo y nos encantó, además habían puestos de street food de la India, que la pueden ver en mi video (min 3:50). Uno de nuestros platillos favoritos fueron las dosas, que son una crepa enrollada rellena de papa, estaban deliciosas! También hubo un show de bailes típicos y a los hombres les enseñaban a ponerse turbantes.

Al siguiente día nos despertamos 6:30am para ver el Taj Mahal al amanecer. Salimos en carritos del hotel ya que estábamos a sólo 600 mts. Fuimos de los primeros en entrar, pero hacía mucho frío y había mucha niebla. El guía nos empezó a contar la historia del Taj Mahal mientras caminábamos, llegamos a la entrada principal y ahí pudimos ver el mausoleo por primera vez !! Woow Woow ! Más impresionante de lo que me imaginaba, es enorme!
Entramos al interior y me enamoré del trabajo del mármol tallado, las incrustaciones de piedras semipreciosas, y las fuentes jardines que lo rodean. Nos quedamos un rato ahí tomando fotos y disfrutando de una de las siete maravillas del mundo!😍
Regresamos al hotel a desayunar delicioso y fuimos a conocer el fuerte de Agra. Increíble también, sin embargo la ciudad y los trayectos son un caos. La gente va en motos, elefantes, bicis, caminando y los que pueden en coche. Vimos mucha pobreza, pero la gente sumamente amable y pudimos disfrutar de un día hermoso en nuestro segundo destino de la India.

When I found out I was going to visit India, the first thing that came into my mind was the Taj Mahal. I was dying to see it, I had always dreamt of this moment in my life!
As I told you in my Jaipur post, India is a place of contrasts & Agra is one of the cities where I noticed it the most; starting with the most representative monument of love, the Taj Mahal. It is located in a city where most of its inhabitants live in situations of extreme poverty.

When we arrived everything looked dirty, with a layer of dust on the streets, trees and people. The sidewalks were practically nonexistent, they were all destroyed, and the sky seemed like a huge cloud of smoke. We arrived at dusk, and stayed at the The Oberoi Amarvilas. The most beautiful hotel in the world, the entrance was stunning!! It had a big esplanade surrounded with water mirrors and fountains. Our heavenly rooms had an unreal terrace overlooking the Taj Mahal.

The first night we had the Christmas dinner on the hotel terrace. There were many tables and a buffet with international and Indian food. We tried everything and totally loved it, one of our favorite dishes were the dosas, which are a rolled crepe stuffed with potato, they are delicious! There was also a show of typical dances and men teaching us how to wear turbans.(Don´t miss this part on the video, min 3:50)

The next day we woke up at 6:30 am to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise. We were the first ones to enter, but it was very cold and there was a lot of fog. The guide started telling us the history of the Taj Mahal as we walked & finally we reached the main entrance. There we could see the mausoleum for the first time !! Woow Woow! More impressive than I ever imagined, it’s huge!
We entered & fell in love with the work of the carved marble, the inlays of semiprecious stones, and all the gardens fountains that surround it. We spent some time there taking photos and enjoying one of the seven wonders of the world!
We returned to the hotel for a delicious breakfast and went to the Agra Fort. Incredible too, however the city and the trajectories are a mess. People go on bikes, elephants, bikes, walking and those who can drive. We saw a lot of poverty, but the people were extremely friendly and we were able to enjoy a beautiful day at our second destination in India.
